Lucero's latest release, Women & Work, picks up where there last release - 1372 Overton Park - left off. The horns and piano continue to give Lucero a dimension that their earlier releases didn't have. The songs are strong, fun, southern and I can't wait to see them performed live (come to Charlotte NC again soon, guys).As you expect from Lucero, the ghosts of the woman/women that have brushed off Ben Nichols in the past and those he had to work really hard to coax are well represented (Juniper, come here). Sorry you had to go through that Ben; but, man, it makes for some great songs. There are also a couple of songs with more reflective themes ("Sometimes", "When I Was Young").One other thing ... I noticed a little less gravel in Ben's vocals in several spots - to me, growth in his approach. Don't mistake, there is still plenty here and I always love it. Just less than usual.This is a great album by one of my favorite bands. I'll probably spend several nights this Summer in my yard with a cold drink just listening. Great stuff. Thanks guys.
